The animation director is the second in command after the director of a project. They are responsible for the overall quality of the animation, making sure that the produced work is in line with the creative vision of the director of the movie. On smaller projects, this job may be handled by the director himself.
The animator is one of the key people in the team. Their responsibility is to work with different departments and put together the work done by them in order to create the final output. They animate scenes, plot camera movements, edit soundtracks, and chart other required information. Good draftsmanship is not a necessity but goes a long way in this profession, especially in 2D animation.Modellers build three dimensional computer models of the objects and characters that are needed for a CGI project. CG modellers need to understand the actions and expressions required of the models as this will affect the output produced.
After the main work has been completed by the animators, a compositor is brought in to construct the final image by combining layers of created material. They obtain material from numerous sources such as rendered animation, 2D animation, special effects, graphics, live action and static background plates.
The job of an editor involves documenting the audio and video material received, loading it into the computer and adding or subtracting material to build the project into one cohesive story.
